| On Saturday evening, my left eye suddenly got blurry. Besides streaks of dark clouds, there were thousands of black dots. Thankfully, I got a special appointment with the ophthalmologist Monday morning. The ophthalmologist found the cause to be posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). Thankfully, the retina was still intact. The doctor’s instruction for the next few weeks included “no strenuous aerobics, jogging, running or sports involving jumping. “ So, there goes my jump-rope every day! Since I love to eat, this will be quite a challenge to keep in shape and burn calorie. So, I need other forms of exercise. Pray for recovery of clear vision and ways to take good care. Being able to see is valuable. Being able to see well is precious. The sudden onset of PVD reminded me to take full advantage of the present eyesight: to read, to write, to serve, to enjoy the beauty of creation, to cultivate relationship, , etc. | | |
| Today is the one year
anniversary of the deadliest campus shooting incident in American history. Seeing the commemoration presented in world news especially touched me. Not only because it happened in my alma mater, but because I am still involved in student ministry. I am near the heart of the campus, and “the campus is in my heart!”
Somehow, the tragic
incident shattered the illusive sense of peace
that supposedly comes from education. As I pray for Virginia Tech, I pray for our country, our schools and our student ministry. I hope to see many students making decisions that translate into channels of blessings to the world.
| I am amazed by the many interesting redemptive analogies for
Chinese New Year celebration. The
Chinese like to post couplets on the sides of the door frame and blessing words
on the top of the door frame. They
always use red paper.
What a resemblance to the Passover commemoration!
(Exodus 12:7 "They are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops
of the door frames of the houses.")
Chinese also like
to post the Chinese word「福」(“blessing”) on red paper. It is interesting that the word 「福」has the following radicals: 神 (God), 一 (one), 口(mouth), 田 (farm). It is a reminder that God is
the source of our blessings (有「神」就有福氣 ) .

A
few days ago, I read Acts 13:36 "For when David
had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried
with his fathers and his body decayed..?nbsp;
I
was struck by such an interesting & poignant epitaph for David life! I end up pondering this verse for quite a few
more days.
It
provoked many more questions: What is my purpose in life? What is God purpose
for my life? What is serving God purpose in this generation? , , . Thinking
on these should lead to a purpose-driven life.
Then
the second part of that verse is reality reminder that many of us like to
avoid. It is difficult not to think
about that this year. For some reason,
there were more funerals this year. Just
in November, I received three calls for conducting funerals. Just a few minutes ago, I received another
one. Coincidence!
I
thought of another reminder. Dr. Betsy
Ancker-Johnson, Vice President at General Motor, posted in her office, ne Maker ultimately recalls all His products.?/span>
Time
is precious. Life span is real. ?span style="font-style: italic; font-family: Times New Roman;">So
teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.?(Ps 90:12)
